I saw this and I laughed out loud because no. That nice, useful, friendly grid pattern (with the exception of Broadway which drives through Manhattan on a slant like a drunk moron) only exists in Manhattan, north of Houston St. Everything south of Houston St. and the other four borough of NYC all look like Boston does. So yeah no. Not so much.

As a Bostonian I was completely unprepared to live in Chicago, which is also on a grid system. I would get directions and then ask for landmarks.

LOL! This is how I felt the first time I drove in Boston. Holy hell!

Missoula is similar to Boston. Newbies hate it. I do too when I’m trying to get across town.

Loving this gorgeous collection of colorful maps, produced in 1944 by Harold N. Fisk, showing the paths of past and current flows as the meandering Mississippi river changed course and flooded over time.See full collection here.

As many of you know, I grew up on the Mississippi. In the middle of Clinton, Iowa, there is a length of high limestone bluffs, a reminder of where the river flowed before the New Madrid quake bounced it out of its bed and further east. I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of launching an entire river, one of the largest in the world, right out of its banks suddenly and violently.
It’s totally a thing, and I’ve got it bad.

London-based artist Claire Brewster uses discarded and out of date maps and atlases to produce these delicate paper cutouts of nature. Each final artwork is pinned directly to the wall and the light that shines through gives each piece a three-dimensional quality.
